Subject: This Woman is Creepy
Subject: This Woman is Creepy
An angry-sounding woman narrator bites off her words as she praises naked infants for their "good teeth" "flat tummy" "glossy hair" "well shaped head."
...
and "have good appetites." She sounds like she's selling them into slavery.
She also provides nutrition tips for the youngsters. "Strained for babies" she keeps chiding us. "Bacon, an appetizing food," she sneers as we see oceans of fat in a frying pan.
The short draws to a close with two young men in matching shorts wrestling with each other, one seems to be enjoying it very much. The ending is chopped off before we can hear the harpie creep us out more by praising the chests of pre-school boys.
Four stars for camp factor.

Dude, just look around you. Plenty of overweight kids running around today. I call them "Wendy's" in honor of our fast-food nation. Exercise? You've

Cornell University made this idealistic film back in 1940. Somewhat simplistic and dated. Nice color photography, though.

Does anybody know what this film was intended for?
It's interesting to note that the older children are(if they are still alive) in their mid to late ... 70's, and the babies would be in their mid 60's.
So why do many people of that generation wear dentures and use Depends?

Subject: Healthy Children in Minute Detail
Subject: Healthy Children in Minute Detail
This 40s film features lots of children and teens frolicking and playing in bathing suits or sunsuits, while a female narrator goes on and on about how
...
healthy and well-developed they are because of good nutrition, exercise, plenty of fresh air and sunshine, and all-around right living. She really does go on and on about this, and its only near the end of the film that some actual suggestions are given for how to bring this about. Most of the nutritional suggestions are reasonably sound (fresh fruits and vegetables, whole-grain breads, etc.) but the food looks really terrible, especially the dried fruit, the canned salmon, and the suggestion that pigs liver is just as good as beef. A mildly campy look at another eras childraising and nutrition standards.
Ratings: Camp/Humor Value: ****. Weirdness: ****. Historical Interest: ****. Overall Rating: ****.

Are they talking about children or racehorses in this movie? ("He has well-spaced teeth in a healthy jaw and glossy hair") The narration switches between
...
sounding like a breeding book to one of the physique/bodybuilding magazines of the times. (I have one from 1939 that extolls the virtues of prunes!)
I must say, though, that this movie gives an excellent overview of commercial swimear in the 'forties. You don't often get to see the variety of colours.

Uhhh, this very VERY interesting film tells us about what to look for in healthy boys and girls. If you thought that that meant showing many scenes of
...
kids running around either naked or half naked, well, you'd be right! Also, a very smarmy school teacher like voice dictates to us what makes for helathy young boys and girls. Honestly, the effect this film has is too creepy. It concludes by telling us what to eat (bacon?) and how to have a well balanced diet. This is one creept film.
